Water Meter Fittings

If you want to have a water meter installed, you need to consider several facts. Experienced professionals are the only ones who can carry out water meter fittings. Fitting your Water Meter
 
Location, location, location. Just as in housing, where we place a water meter is important. As a device that carefully and accurately measures the water usage of a commercial or residential structure, a water meter has certain limitations. Where we can fit or position it will depend upon such factors as to whether:
 

• You have more than a single water supply pipe to your residence or commercial unit
• The supply pipe provides water to more than your property
• The pipework proves to be in substandard condition – this will prevent installation until the pipes are brought up to code
• The water pipes that supply your building or unit are inaccessible
• There is a suitable place to fit the water meter

 
If the water pipe is accessible, in good repair, in line with the current regulations and generally suitable, we will go on and fit or install the water meter.
 
Where We Fit the Water Meters
 
Water meter fittings have one of two main options. Your installer may place them either inside or outside. In either case, the device needs to be fitted on the water supply pipe. They usually are placed in close proximity to the stop tap or stop cock.
 
Inside Water Meter Fittings
 
If you have an inside water meter it is near the entry point of the water supply line. In many homes, this may be downstairs in the kitchen or in the bathroom. The exact location in newer homes may vary according to the layout plan of the home.
 
Outside Fittings
 
Outside fittings look a little more complex. While still near the entry point of the water supply line, these meters require greater protection than those located indoors. Usually placed close to the property line on your front lawn, they are housed in an external casing. This is an exterior box clearly marked to indicate the presence of a water meter. It is your responsibility to make sure it is kept clear for manual readings. Do not park vehicles or place objects on top of or over the water meter.
